Ingredients:

6 braeburn apples
water, for soaking apples
lemon juice, for soaking apples
1/2 cup cold water
1/2 cup sugar

Directions:

  1. Peel apples then quarter. Remove cores then cut apples into thick slices. Immediately place apples in a bowl with water and lemon juice, to prevent browning. Soak for about 5 minutes.
  2. Add cold water to a heavy 2-quart saucepan.
  3. Drain apples then add to saucepan. Over medium heat, bring to a boil; cover then reduce heat to low. Simmer apples for 8 to 10 minutes (for chunky sauce) and 12 to 15 minutes (for smooth sauce). During the last 3 minutes of cooking time add the sugar; cook and stir to desired consistency.
  4. Serve warm or chilled.
Course: Side, snack
