Orange Clove Cookies

Serves 24 |
A simple, spiced holiday treat.
Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup unsalted butter
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 tablespoon grated orange zest
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, stir together the flour, salt, cloves, cinnamon, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
- In a separate mixing bowl, stir together the sugar, brown sugar, and butter until light and fluffy. Then beat in the eggs one at a time. And stir in the vanilla extract and orange zest until well combined.
- Gradually pour the flour mixture into the sugar mixture until just combined.
- Scoop out about a tablespoon of dough and roll it into a ball. Arrange them on the baking sheets. Gently press down with the bottom of a glass to slightly flatten.
- Place in the oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, until the edges are golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes. Then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.
